Sharon J. Lane, M.S.Ed., Honored for Excellence in Adult Education

Lane Notably Helped Develop One of the Most Advanced GED Programs in New York State

WATERTOWN, NY, September 7, 2009 /Technical PR News/ -- Sharon J. Lane, Adult Education Specialist for Jefferson-Lewis BOCES, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of adult education.

Mrs. Lane has 32 years of experience as an educator. Since 1989, she has devoted her energies to Jefferson-Lewis BOCES and is widely credited for helping develop an education program that is one of the most advanced GED programs in the state. Mrs. Lane began her career as a substitute teacher, deciding to take the leap to teaching full-time after falling in love with the profession. She attributes her success to her persistence and drive, and to the inspiration that she received from her mentors.

Mrs. Lane acquired a Master of Science in Education with distinction in 1971 from SUNY Potsdam. She received her Associate of Applied Arts in Liberal Arts from Jefferson Community College in 1971, and was on both the Dean's and President's lists. In 1973, she earned her Bachelor of Arts with an emphasis in Pre-Law and Political Science from the State University of New York at Oswego, where she also earned Dean's and President's list distinctions. She gives generously to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Feed The Children, The American Legion Auxiliary, Boys Town, Food for the Poor, Children's Miracle Network and various local charities. She looks forward to more years of teaching.

In 1997, Mrs. Lane helped to create Watertown High's unique alternative system for students who had dropped out of school over a year or more. The program grew from 20 students to around 50 and was very successful.
